Climate change/energy

SB 675 (Steinberg) - Job Training: Clean Tech and Renewable Energy - Would provide funding in the form of competitive grants to enhance educational opportunities to train for careers directly related to clean technology, renewable energy, or energy efficiency.

SB 721 (Steinberg) - Climate Change Research, Mitigation, Competition and Economic Leadership Act - Would create the Climate Action Team (CAT), consisting of representatives from specified state agencies, that would be responsible for coordinating the state's overall climate policy.

SB 128 (Padilla) - California Climate Change Institute - Would create a state-level organization to oversee and coordinate climate change related research and education. CCST testified concerning SB 128, stating that "If designed thoughtfully, the Institute can be a cost effective way to identify the potential threats of climate change and to marshal our collective resources for a successful response or preemptive adaption...[and] can also be a valuable engine for economic growth of new clean industries."

Education/Workforce Development

SB 751 (Romero) - Out of Field Science and Math teachers - Would authorize the Commission on Teaching Credentials to issue a multiple subject, single subject, or education specialist teaching credential to teachers prepared in a country other than the United States who have earned valid corresponding credentials in another state.

AB 35 (Furutani) - Strategic Plan for Workforce Preparation and Career Technical Education - Would require the California Postsecondary Education Commission, the Department of Education, and the California Workforce Investment Board to work together and develop recommendations for a strategic plan for workforce development and career technical education in the public education system.

Healthcare Information Technology

SB 270 (Alquist) - Health Information Technology Advisory Panel - Would establish the Health Information Technology Advisory Panel to advise the Governor and the Legislature on health information technology implementation.

AB 1542 (Assembly Health Committee) - Patient-Centered Medical Home Act of 2009 - Would encourage health care providers and patients to partner in a patient-centered medical home, encouraging a team approach that includes centralized medical records.
