Jud King is director of the Center for Studies in Higher Education and emeritus professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Previously, he served as provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs for the University of California system and provost for Professional Schools and Colleges and dean of the College of Chemistry on the Berkeley campus. King received a B.E. in Chemical Engineering from Yale University, and his S.M. and Sc.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
King is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Society for Engineering Education, the International Committee for Solvent Extraction, the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He served as chair of the California Council on Science and Technology from 2001-2004 and was a nine-year member of the council. He holds 11 U.S. Patents and has published over 215 journal articles or chapters in research and academic textbooks. He is the recipient of the Centennial Medallion and the George Westinghouse Award from the American Society for Engineering Education, the Mac Pruitt Award from the Council for Chemical Research, the Award for Excellence in Drying Research from the International Drying Symposium, and the William H. Walker Award, the Clarence G. Gerhold Award and the Warren K. Lewis Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
